It seems like yesterday when we were sweltering in the 100 degree heat at our 2019 National Meet in Lititz, Pa. We were wishing for much cooler temperatures. Well, we have them now! The purpose of this letter is to announce the dates and provide you with preliminary information about our 42nd National Meet in 2020. It will be held Wednesday, September 9th through Saturday, September 12th in the New Jersey Shore area.
Our hotel will be the Clarion Inn and Conference Center, in Toms River, located on Route 37 near Garden State Parkway Exit 82. We’ll have fine summer weather without the summer traffic and we’ll have special off-season rates of $103 to $135 per night, plus tax. (Summer rates can run over $270 per night!) Registration forms will be provided in an upcoming issue of the NCPC Journal.
A “pre-meet kick off” will take place Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9th at Tuckerton Seaport Museum with a pontoon boat ride & light house visit, after we have lunch at the museum restaurant…The Union Market. Tuckerton is 25 miles south of Toms River, directly off of the Garden State Parkway on Route 9. Travelers can either meet us at Tuckerton Seaport or stop at the Clarion first, to drop off a trailer if necessary, & then catch up with us at Tuckerton from noon on. After touring the Seaport Museum, we will go directly back to the Clarion. Later we’ll meet up for dinner on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk and enjoy the sea breeze while our cars will be safe in a lot nearby. Thursday, we plan to visit Jenkinson’s Aquarium, gift shops and have lunch at Jenkinson’s Food Court Pavilion on the Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk. After lunch, we will drive to a light house at Sea Girt for a personal tour and then head back to the Clarion around 4:30. Later, we will have our own Cruise Night at Stewart’s, overlooking the sunset on the bay. Friday will include a luncheon cruise on Toms River aboard the “The River Lady” boat (11:30 – 1:30), followed by a quick visit to the nearby Ocean County Historical Museum and a surprise mystery tour! Dinner will be on your own at Ike’s Restaurant at the Clarion, followed by our Ice Cream Social, general membership meeting and Fun Auction.
To showcase our fine automobiles and trucks entered into Saturday’s show, we have secured a large, private, paved lot at Island Beach State Park. Island Beach is a 10-mile long, ½ mile wide, strip of undeveloped land between the ocean and the Barnegat Bay! Our show will be advertised in the Island Beach State Park 2020 Visitor’s Guide, which will be distributed throughout the State. A separate parking lot 1000 feet north of our show area provides a bathing pavilion, food court and public parking for the large numbers of park visitors. From that lot, you can walk to the beach; take a stroll or a swim. Water temperatures are typically in the 70”s. “Come on in, the water’s fine”! Lifeguards will be on duty. After our show you can cruise the park and find your perfect “photo-op” with the dunes as a backdrop. After the leisurely 10 mile ride back to the Clarion, we will have our evening Awards Banquet to bring our meet to a close. On Sunday, you may choose to linger in the area since arcades and rides will be open on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk or you may want to attend a large, local, car show near the bay.
On behalf of my fellow members of the New Jersey Shore Region, we wish to welcome you to the shore for the 42nd NCPC National Meet. We are grateful to our NCPC Board Members for allowing us this opportunity to bring this event to our area. You will discover many surprises all along the New Jersey shore. If you have questions, please call me, or leave a message, at 732-270-3992. More details will be forthcoming in the Journal. Please Save the Date and pass this information along to others. “See you in September”!!!
